PANAMA CITY - Nearly 6,000 people in Bay County will be paying more for their water and sewage service.
County commissioners approved a utilities rate increase for the county's retail customers. The proposal would affect the Cedar Grove, Southport and other unincorporated areas of Bay County.
County officials say customers will pay an extra $19 a month or $225 a year for the average use of about 5,000 gallons of water.
Commissioners say the increase is necessary to keep the county from losing half a million dollars a year. Customers will see the increase in next month's bill.
