Bay County Hosts Waste Amnesty Days

PANAMA CITY BEACH - Bay County is hosting its annual waste amnesty days at Steelfield Landfill Saturday from 7 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Waste amnesty days are held twice a year to allow residents to drop off anything from refrigerators to batteries to yard debris free of charge.

There is usually a tipping fee of $47.50 for residents to drop off their solid waste but that fee is waved for residents.

"It gives the residents a chance to dispose of things like used oil paints that they haven't used pesticides insecticides herbicides, fertilize, tires, old washing machines, and dryers and small engine devices that have accumulated at their house over the course of the years. And we wave the tipping fees so we can collect those and give them an opportunity to dispose of those items," said Jamie Jones, Bay Co. General Svc. Director.

People dropping off their waste must show proof of residency. Steelfield Landfill is located on Landfill Road off Highway 79.

The site also has a fishing pond free for those who recycle their garbage through the landfill. If you're not able to make it to amnesty day this weekend the county holds another amnesty day in the fall.
