Bay County Sheriff's officials are continuing to investigate an unusual death that occurred earlier this week in a Panama City Beach home.

Authorities say a local man accidentally shot and killed his 24 year old friend with a shotgun.

Sheriff's investigators arrived on the scene of the home on Cypress Street around 11:45 on Wednesday night.

"We received a 911 call from Blaine Kendall who advised on the 911 call that he had accidentally shot his roommate," said Major Tommy Ford of the Bay County Sheriff's Office.

Thomas Reid Crawford, known by his friends as 'Reid', was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kendall originally told deputies he tripped on a loaded shotgun that was sitting near the front door, but when the evidence didn't add up, investigators say Kendall changed his story.

"He did admit to having picked up the gun and was holding it when he inadvertently pulled the trigger," said Major Ford.

At this point, investigators say it appears the shooting was accidental; however, they have charged Kendall with providing false information to law enforcement.

Reid Crawford's family is continuing to mourn the loss of someone much too young.
Reid's brother Ryan talked about his brother, but didn't want to appear on camera.

"He had a heart of gold. He would really do anything for anybody at the drop of a hat," said Ryan Crawford.

Ryan told WJHG that Reid worked for a local dermatologist and was a fan of the Florida Gators.

"He had so many dreams of doing different things. You never really knew what he wanted to do. He was a great roommate, friend, brother. We'll all miss him more than he knows," said Ryan.

As far as what happened Wednesday night, investigators believe the shooting is likely an unfortunate accident, but their investigation is on-going.
