Springfield- Booked into the Bay County Jail Monday night, Bryan Keith Castleman, 50 years old, was charged with two open counts of murder. His victims, according to investigators were his wife, Mary Ann Castleman, 47 years old, and her father, Leroy Milton Minnich, 74 years old.
Springfield Police said a tip from a neighbor led to the gruesome discovery Monday afternoon.
"He called my phone and told me to come over there. I saw his wife naked on the floor. She was stabbed and cut. She had a spirit of shock all over her face. Her dad was face down on the floor. He was covered up and he was pretty badly bruised," said next-door neighbor Ricardo Reynolds.
Springfield Police Chief Phillip Thorne told NewsChannel 7 the last time Mary Ann Castleman was believed to have been seen alive was last Wednesday, a day before Thanksgiving.
"Does it appear that the bodies have been there more than just a few hours?" asked NewsChannel 7's Bryan Anderson.
"Yeah, but you have to remember too it's been cold this weekend so there's not been any decomposition or anything like that," answered Chief Thorne.
Investigators are now working to figure out why he allegedly committed the murders. A look into his criminal past may provide some answers. According to the Florida Department of Corrections' website, Castleman served time for domestic battery. Neighbors said they never saw it coming.
"He seemed like a normal guy," said a neighbor who didn't want to be identified.
"Did you ever think he was capable of doing something like that?" Anderson asked Reynolds.
"No, not at all. It changed my life," said Reynolds.
Castleman was being held on no bond Monday night. He's expected to make his first appearance Tuesday when a judge will formally charge him.
