BAY COUNTY - Bay district school transportation officials are urging parents to sign up for their alert system.
The school district uses bus bulletin to inform parents of any bus delays, route changes, and accidents. Parents are alerted through text message, email, or voicemail.
Some parents are complaining they aren't told about these changes, but transportation officials say that's because only 1,100 families of the thousands of children who ride buses, have signed-up for the notification system.
"We transport about 13,000 students every day. So it's nowhere near where we would like to have it," said Bob Downin, Director of Transportation for Bay District Schools.
Downin says parents can sign up online from their home, at the school district office, or at the transportation building. They plan to discuss the new system at future parent teacher organization meetings.
