Everyone is feeling the pinch with cuts across the board being recommended by the Bay County Commission.
Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen has been asked by commissioners to cut $759,000 from his budget, this comes after McKeithen asked commissioners to allot an extra $381,000 to help pay for new costs with employer's insurance.
McKeithen says the cuts will cost 31 jobs, 15 from the county jail and 16 from the sheriff's office. While he hopes commissioners will change their mind about the budget, it doesn't look like they're going to budge.
Commissioners all said that times are hard and that everyone is feeling the cuts across the board, but that the changes are necessary.
The county and the sheriff's office make up the majority of the budget. The county needs to drop $1.6 million. Officials from the county say they have cut $773,000 from their own budget for next year.
