Bay County Tops Economic Comeback List

It seems investments made by the Tourist Development Council for Bay County has paid off.

New figures from Florida's Office of Economic and Demographic Research show Panama City Beach's tourism is now number one for economic growth in the state.

" I mean, we've done some things in terms of really aggressively pushing marketing and done some events to help move the beach along however, it's because we have great visitors." said Bay County TDC Executive Director Dan Rowe. "I mean the folks that come to Panama City Beach, they love it."

Whether it's the beach or the marketing, the work has paid off. The area's tourism industry is up 26% since this summer - knocking Miami-Dade out of the top spot.

Officials with the TDC say they plan to use new marketing tools in an attempt to get more people to visit the area.
