The Bay Health Foundation at Bay Medical Sacred Heart is donating half a million dollars to nine local non-profit healthcare organizations.
The local non-profits receiving the majority of the grant money St. Andrews Medical Clinic, Avicenna Health Clinic, and Bay Cares. Each is getting about $100,000.
Foundation board members, which also serve as the hospital's board of trustees, say each organization needs this money to continue helping around 2,000 patients each.
"They all depend heavily on what we're giving this year. One of them wouldn't exist without this $100,000. The other two that we give $100,000 each would be greatly crippled without it," said Don Connor, Bay Health Foundation Chairman.
This is the second year Bay Health Foundation has awarded grants. The $500,000 is a 25% increase over last year.
