Beach Drowning Incident

A drowning on the west end of Panama City Beach leaves one man dead Monday afternoon. The incident happened around 1:30 near Beach Access 68 beside the Landmark condominiums.

Witnesses told investigators that William Hobby of Culleoka, Tennessee was swimming with his son when his son became distressed. Mr. Hobby swam out to rescue his son but also became distressed in the water.

When rescuers got to Mr. Hobby, he was already unconscious. He he was taken to a Panama City hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The official cause of death is under investigation by the Medical Examiner's office. The son was rescued and did not sustain any injuries.
