Over 8,000 Gulf Power Customers were without power this afternoon as a big power failure hit the east side of Panama City

The power was disrupted shortly before noon today in an area roughly from the Cove and Martin Luther King, Jr Blvd east to Callaway.

Bay County School Board says 8 local schools were without electricity this afternoon. A number of traffic lights were inoperative

Gulf power tells NewsChannel 7 the problem was centered in a Redwood substation just off 11th street.

Power re-routed to other substations to get the electricity back on while the problem at the Redwood sub-station is being diagnosed and repaired.
