A long-time Bay County government employee will soon be leaving his post. Cocoa Beach city commissioners chose Assistant County Manager Bob Majka to be their new City Manager Monday.
Majka began his career with Bay County in 1988, as a firefighter.
He worked his way up through the ranks to become the Emergency Management Services Director in 1998.
Then in 2006, Majka became assistant county manager.
Majka, who recently lost out on the Panama City Beach city manager's job, was selected today from a field of 5-finalists.
He'll replace long-time Cocoa Beach City Manager Chuck Billias who will retire in November. Cocoa city commissioners directed staff to begin contract negotiations with Majka.
If all goes as planned, Majka will start his new job in mid-October.
