A Bonifay man led authorities on a high speed chase through Panama City Sunday night in a stolen truck.

27-year-old Christopher Bowman stole a Ford f-150 from an area off North Lagoon in Panama City Beach just before 6:45 p.m. Sunday.

Residents in the area heard gun shots and called 911. When Bay County Sheriff's deputies arrived they learned a truck had been stolen. A friend of the victim found the truck and started following it. The suspect, Christopher Bowman, fired three shots at the person following him near Grand Lagoon Shores and he got away. But the person was thankfully not hurt.

A deputy then saw the truck near the Hathaway Bridge and attempted to pull Bowman over but he refused to stop. Authorities chased Bowman down 23rd Street and tried to use spike strips to stop him.

The car chase ended when Bowman crashed into a concrete sign at the Baldwin Rowe town homes near State Road 77.

Bowman fled on foot but deputies and Panama City police officers caught up to him.

Bowman is charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, felony fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of prescription opiate pain pills.
