Breakfast Point Academy Kindergarten Teacher Wins Golden Apple

PANAMA CITY BEACH- This week's Golden Apple award winner teaches kindergarten at Breakfast Point Academy in Panama City Beach. Mrs. Cheryl Webb was nominated by a student teacher, Jessica Harris, who is learning from her this semester. She writes: "She is the best kindergarten teacher I have ever seen. She knows how to interact with the students and how to hold their attention. With students that are just learning to come to school, she does so well teaching them each step and movement of how school works and what is acceptable."

As a kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Webb is teaching these children how to be students, and she's teaching this student how to be a teacher. "I already feel like I've learned so much from her after being in here for just 7 weeks," said Jessica. "I feel like I could go anywhere now, in any grade, and be comfortable teaching," she said.

From letters and numbers to learning to read, Mrs. Webb advances every student, no matter what their level when they come in. "Cheryl Webb is one of the most amazing kindergarten teachers that has ever worked for me," said Breakfast Point Principal Denise Kelley. "She includes every child in every lesson and gets them engaged to the point that they don't even realize they are learning because they are having so much fun," said Principal Kelley.

"I've always loved teaching kindergarten and the primary grades because it's the start of their educational future. It builds a foundation for those kids. I see so much growth in students from the beginning of the year to the end," said Mrs. Webb. "I like coming to school," said student Jackson Hobbs. "She helps us. She is kind," said student Autumn Walker.

While she was nominated by student teacher Jessica Harris, Mrs. Webb says they are learning from each other. "It's actually a great benefit to me as well as to her because I have the teaching experience that I can pass on to her, but she has recent knowledge from school that she can pass on to me," said Mrs. Webb. Congratulations to Mrs. Webb, this week's Golden Apple award winning teacher.
