Panama City Beach, Fla. Sue Mullen was recently named the Support Person of the Year for the State of Florida.
Mullen works as the Data Entry Manager at Breakfast Point Academy, where she mentors children and assists teachers.
Nominated for the award by multiple members from the Bay County community, she competed against other nominees from 67 Florida counties.
The top five nominees were invited to Winter Park, Fla. for the award ceremony.
Mullen was awarded with multiple plaques and two checks worth 15 hundred dollars.
Mullen joked that the victory was bittersweet because in order to accept the award, she had to miss Relay for Life on Panama City Beach, which she hasn't missed for 13 years.
"I feel like if you teach children at an early age how to give and how to care for people, they grow up to be people who in return do things for their community and school, and so that’s just primarily me, I don’t realize what I have done that is so different than anyone else," said Mullen
She says she has been amazed with the community response since she has received her award and she would like to thank everyone that has helped her along this journey.
