Postal officials are continuing to evaluate their plans to cut a multi-billion dollar deficit. They've been closing post offices around the country, including a few in Bay County.
After the closing of the Parker Post Office, Eastside residents are getting hit again. Postal officials are now closing the small office located in Callaway on Highway 22. The close is a part of a plan to help save around $3 billion dollars after the closing of twenty locations this year.
However, Eastside residents aren’t pleased with the decision saying it would be an inconvenience all around. Nancy Phares is one such customer. She said, “I’d have to look to go to Sherman or somewhere else I presume, but I prefer coming here because I do a lot of business, and you know, various and shopping on this side of town. That’s the reason I come here.”
The Postal Service hasn’t decided on a date to close the Callaway location.

Good! The postal service needs a serious overhaul. They need to end Saturday delivery too. If they were a private business, they would have folded due to bankruptcy decades ago!
Great reporting! I was not aware of the plans to close the Callaway office until I saw this story tonight. I thought I misheard what was being reported so I'm glad I found this online. Cute new reporter.
