Chipley- It's been said tragedy tends to strikes in threes, and that was certainly the case for the Sasser family.
"My dad just passed away in November" Jared Sasser explained, "I was just recently laid off, and now this happened just now."
Monday, Sasser's childhood home was burglarized and burned all within an hour. "The fire marshal hasn't determined what started the fire yet, its still under investigation" Sasser said. The jewelry was located in the bathroom where the fire started.
The blaze destroyed 27 years of irreplaceable memories."My dad built this house. That makes it even worse. Pictures in there that we'll never get back. All kinds of things- cabinets that he built and refinished, antiques, there's just all kinds of things in that house that my dad built with his own two hands that we'll never get back."
And what Saser's father didn't build with his two hands, he wore on one of them. "My dad's ring is gone" he told us. "My mom's wedding ring is gone. There's just so much jewelry that was taken- just, heirlooms."
"Wesley, my husband's brother, his birthday was Saturday" Sister in law, Briggette Sasser explained. "It was a hard time, a very memorable time for us. Then for this to happen, it's sad. It's really sad."
Jared added, "[my mom] didn't deserve this. She didn't deserve this. My mom would give the shirt off her back if she thought it would help you."
Tuesday the family was busy trying to salvage whatever they could and trying to move forward in light of the tragedy.
