MARIANNA-- Chipola College faculty and students are celebrating Monday.
The School of Health Sciences nursing program has received national accreditation. School officials held a ceremony this morning to make the announcement.
Speakers included Chipola's President Dr. Jason Hurst and Vice President Dr. Sarah Clemmons. Both the associate degree nursing and baccalaureate nursing programs received accreditation status at the same time.
"It will help them as far as advancing their nursing career, if they decide to go to a university because most of the times you have to have attended a nationally accredited college in order to move forward. It will also broaden their employment opportunities," explained School of Health Sciences Dean Vickie Stephens.
The accreditation is a two year process and the college must reapply again in five years.
