Marianna- Two Chipola College students were recognized Thursday for their performance inside and outside of the classroom.

John Whittington was named a member of the the 2013 All-State Academic Team.

Sophomore, Kaylee Toole has been named a First Team Academic All American in USA Today's Phi Theta Kappa academic awards program.

The newspaper chose Toole and 19 others out of 1800 applicants from 800 community colleges across the country.

"It was a very extensive application" Toole explained, "consisting of about ten essays, a few short responses- just about my experiences, leadership, academics and service projects. I actually started a service project a few summers ago called soles for souls, where i collected shoes to take to Nicaragua with me in the summer."

Toole said she was planning to spend her third summer in Nicaragua and had collected 300 pairs of shoes to give those in need.
