Marianna- Students and faculty gathered on the Chipola College campus today to celebrate winning multiple national academic awards.
Last month the Chipola College Brain Bowl team won the state tournament and finished as the top ranked two-year school at nationals. The team came in second overall. They finished with an 11-2 record and came in second to Harvard. They beat other university such as, Chicago, Notre Dame and Toronto.
But the accolade's didn't stop there. The assembly honored Sophomore student, Alyssa Munns of Chipley. Munns was selected as a Gold Scholar on Coca-Cola's Community College Academic team. She was one of twenty people selected from over two thousand applicants and was also recognized for becoming a Phi Theta Kappa Guistwhite Scholar.
Munns has a 4.0 grade point average and said studying takes a lot of her time. But when she's not hitting the books, shesaid she works part time at the Kings Discount Pharmacy and stays active in the community.
"What keeps me motivated is seeing the goal in sight, seeing that, even though, it's a long term thing, just to keep fighting for it" Munns said.
After graduation, Munns wants to go to Pharmacy school.
