PANAMA CITY, Fla Former Gulf Coast State College women's softball coach Susan Painter has been charged with grand theft.

She had a first appearance this afternoon on the felony charge in Bay County Court.

Painter, 52, is charged with embezzling more than $10,000 from the college and student athletes on the softball team.

Investigators with the bay county sheriff's office say painter told the athletes that they each owed 300 dollars for a trip to Las Vegas, that the school had already paid for.

She was also allegedly collecting rent for dorm rooms that were covered by full ride scholarships for two players.

She turned herself into authorities at the bay county jail at 11:30 last night.

Painter was released on own recognizance and pre trial intervention supervision. Next court date is July 8th at 1:30pm
