Congressman Jeff Miller dropped by the Seaside Neighborhood School Wednesday to speak to students about the importance of community involvement. Students spoke to the Congressman about their hopes to contribute to the country and keep it strong.
One of Miller's priorities is combatting the backlog on benefits at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
"I am hopeful that Secretary Shinseki will be able to meet his goal of erasing the backlog of 2015," Miller said, "I'm very suspect of the numbers they're using but it's important. Veterans earned the benefits they receive and they need to be recieved in a timely fashion."
Miller believes the problem with the program is a lack of consistent resource management. He thinks the process will improve once Veterans Affairs converts to a standard digital format for handling benefits claims.
