OKALOOSA ISLAND - A woman arrested on DUI charges is in a lot more trouble after the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says she tried to steal the patrol car.
A deputy stopped Sara Ashley Kirksey, 24, of Laurel Hill, around 7:30 Monday night for running a red light on Okaloosa Island. She was arrested for driving under the influence and placed into the back of the patrol car. But she didn’t stay there long.
The Sheriff’s office says Kirksey slipped out of her handcuffs and climbed through the window that separates front and back seat of the patrol car. When the deputy reached in to stop her, they say Kirksey punched him several times.
Kirksey is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, providing a false name to a law enforcement officer, and escape.
Before her arrest, the Sheriff’s office says Kirksey gave the deputy a false name and birth date.
