DeFuniak Springs Bank Robber Arrested

DeFuniak Springs police have arrested a man who robbed a bank Monday morning.

The robbery happened about 9:00 Monday morning at the Sun Trust Bank branch near the corner of Highway 331 and Bob Sikes Road.

Employees say a white man, wearing an auburn university ball cap, walked into the bank and handed a teller a note claiming he was armed and demanding money.

The man never showed a weapon.

After receiving the money, the man headed north on Highway 331 on foot.

"We searched the area and notified the Walton CI and Walton County Sheriff's Office to respond which they did with their canines. At that point we began our track. During the track we also located a cap or a hat that matched the description of the one the suspect was wearing at the time of the robbery," said Tilman Mears with the DeFuniak Springs Police Department.

After an investiagtion, investigators were able to identify the suspect as 25 year old Jordan Kyle Townsend.

Townsend was arrested late Monday afternoon.

The investigation is still ongoing.
