The Bay County Sheriff's Office is now investigating the death of 90-year-old Wallace Scott as a homicide
Neighbors found his body Saturday morning. They went to check on Scott at his house on Pinetree Road because they had not seen him for a few days.
Heather Myers, Scott's granddaughter says that the circumstances of his death are devastating and was surprised that "something like this would happen in this type of neighborhood and to him," she said.
Officials with the Sheriff's office thought they may have had a lead in the case after noticing Scott's personal car was missing.
"Thinking perhaps, whoever did this to the man might have taken his vehicle and they could someone to this crime," said public information officer, Ruth Corley, with BCSO. "As it turned out, Mr. Scott had put it in a repair shop."
As the investigation continues, the event has shocked the quiet neighborhood as they way for someone to be brought into custody for the murder.
"We understand that residents will be concerned about a homicide in that neighborhood and especially with someone they may have known for many, many years," said Corley. "We are working on this. It's 24/7 until they can develop a suspect and make an arrest."
So far, the sheriff's department has not released a possible motive or named any possible suspects.
