Diesel Fuel Spill Backs Up Traffic on Back Beach Road

Updated: Fri 10:58 AM, Mar 15, 2013

An early morning accident on Back Beach Road tied up the morning commute for several hours Friday morning.

A large scale crew cab truck rear ended a Community Coffee service van in the west bound lane of Back Beach Road about 8:00 Friday morning.

The wreck caused the travel tanks on the pickup to rupture spilling a hundred gallons of diesel fuel onto the road.

Fire rescue crews from Panama City beach and Thomas Drive fire departments responded and contained the spill until haz-mat crews could remove the fuel.

Traffic was backed up for about three quarters of a mile in both directions.
