Downed Plane in Okaloosa Co. Under Investigation

OKALOOSA COUNTY-- Update: August 25, 2014- 10:30 a.m.

The Okaloosa-Walton Medical Examiner's Office said an autopsy is needed to identify the remains of the pilot who died in a single engine plane crash near Laurel Hill Saturday.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the FAA. The crash took place around 3:00 p.m. August 23 near Steel Mill Road.


The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a small, single engine plane in the northern part of the county.

Sheriff's deputies, first responders, EMS and firefighters responded to the 9-1-1 call around 3 p.m. Saturday.

The plane went down in an area containing swampland near the east side of Steel Mill Road in an area near Laurel Hill.

The Federal Aviation Administration is taking over the investigation.
