A 14-year Downtown Panama City tradition is coming to an end next year.
The Crewe of Massalina has cancelled next year's Mardi Gras parade because of Panama City's new event fees schedule.
It requires organizations to pick-up part of the city's costs, like police overtime, to hold events.
Events Coordinator Katherine Miller says the Crewe of Massalina typically spends about $15,000 to stage all of it' Mardi Gras events.
But the new fees will make it too expensive to stage the parade.
So the Crewe is focusing it's efforts on another event.
"What we couldn't do for our parade and festival, we've thrown ourselves into making what we hope will be the biggest and best ball ever," said Miller.
The Crewe of Massalina's New Year's Eve Ball will take place New Year's Eve at the Holiday Inn Select.
This year's theme is tribute to the Beatles.
Celebrity guests include director and writer David Winters, and "So You Think You Can Dance" contestant Brandon Bryant.
You can buy tickets for $30 at Milly's on Harrison Avenue.
