Driver, Asleep At The Wheel, Hits Pickup In Walton County

SANTA ROSA BEACH - State Troopers are investigating a crash on 30-A in Walton County, involving a Panama City man who fell asleep at the wheel.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Jameson Hammond, 27, Panama City was headed east on 30-A. Around 7:15 a.m., troopers say Hammond dozed off and his Nissan Altima drifted into oncoming traffic near Little Red Fish Lake. Carl Bunn, 51, Freeport swerved to the right, but could night avoid Hammond. The driver’s side of his Chevy Silverado pickup collided with the driver’s side of Hammond’s Altima.

Hammond and Bunn and his passenger, Andre Anderson, 34, Freeport, were all transported to Sacred Heart Emerald Coast. Hammond was later transferred to Sacred Heart Pensacola by medical helicopter due to his injuries. He’s listed in serious condition, as is Bunn. Anderson only suffered minor injuries.

Charges are pending against Hammond.
