Educational Support Employee of the Year

It takes more than just teachers to run a school, and Thursday night Bay District Schools recognized some of its best non-instructional employees.

School board members hosted the annual Support Employee of the Year event at the F-S-U Panama City Campus.

Each school nominated a clerical, food service, transportation or custodial employee. From those 44-nominees, a selection committee chose the top 5. Mosley High Bookkeeper Pam Kirkland, Cedar Grove Elementary Para-Professional Susan Goldman, Lucille Moore Elementary Bookkeeper Janey Snyder, Springfield Elementary Para-Professional Donna Williams and Breakfast Point Elementary Data Entry Manager Sue Mullen.

And this year's winner is Sue Mullen. Besides her everyday job requirements, Mullen also organizes the school's Relay for Life team and plans welcome home parties for the parents of Breakfast Point students who are returning from duty overseas.

"This award means so much because I work with so many great people that are so professional and are so worthy of this award. It's just, I'm so humbled because these people, the support staff, we support the school and we love children. That's our job. So, this just means the world to me!"

Supt. Bill Husfelt told the crowd, “She is one of the hardest workers, and one of the most unselfish and giving folks I know. She's just top notch."

Mullen wins a crystal trophy, 300-dollars from the Panhandle Educators Federal Credit Uion, and 250 dollars from the Bay Education Foundation.
