Federal authorities are following the lead of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and are adding a fall snapper season.
Wildlife officials added the extra recreational season last week, which will run from October 1st through the 21st.
Charter boat captains said that did not do them any good, because their federal fishing licenses prohibit them from catching snapper anywhere, if a federal season is not underway.
Friday, NOAA fisheries upped the red snapper catch limits from 8.46 million pounds to 11 million pounds, and added a 2 week fall season from October 1st till October 15th, which coincides with the state season.
Some fishermen believe this will be a windfall for them, with snapper, grouper, amberjack, trigger fish all in-season at the same time.
