For 51 years, a U-S Air Force jet has occupied the downtown marina. Wednesday it’s moved, as part of the marina redevelopment project.
Officials say the F-101 did not fit into the new marina design, and was costing too much money to maintain.
The 68-foot long aircraft has a wingspan of 40 feet, and weighs over 28-thousand pounds, so moving it wasn't easy. The jet was carefully transported to an undisclosed location for storage.
No word yet as to when the jet in front of Gulf Coast State College will come down. The college say it too has become too costly to maintain and is standing in the way of the new upcoming Hathaway Bridge flyover.
