A Fort Walton Beach man who was shot in the left arm after attacking an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been charged with battery on an officer and carrying a concealed firearm.
29-year old Seth Thomas Shastid was taken into custody Tuesday evening after being treated for his arm injury at Fort
Walton Beach Medical Center.
Deputy Mootaz Nabulsi was heading to work around 5:30 p.m. when one of Shastid’s friends flagged him down to say Shastid was armed
Deputy Nabulsi located Sashid walking on Holmes Boulevard near Sellers Street.
He tried to detain and disarm Shastid to prevent him from inflicting harm on himself.
However Shastid used a martial arts maneuver to take the deputy to the ground and pin him.
The deputy, who feared for his life, was able to unholster his weapon and fire it twice, hitting the defendant once.
He was able to get to his feet and hold Shastid at gunpoint until back-up officers arrived.
Deputy Nabulsi suffered minor injuries to his left knee and arm and was treated at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and released.
As per standard agency protocols, the use of force incident will be
reviewed by the OCSO Office of Professional Standards.
