Jackson County-You probably wouldn't expect that a paramedic would make a fake 911 call,
but that isn't the case for a Jackson County man who sent his own co-workers on a wild goose chase looking for a non-existent accident scene.

Just over a week ago, the Jackson County Sheriff’s office received a frantic phone call from someone claiming there was a multi-car accident near the Alabama state line.

Dispatchers sent out ambulances, fire trucks, police officers, and even a helicopter to aid those in need, but when they got there, there was no accident to be found.

"We spent a lot of time looking that morning to make sure that we did not have a crash. The seriousness of this is the fact that we're taking people away from those that might be needing their services," says Sheriff Louis Roberts.

The sheriff’s office and Jackson County Fire and Rescue teams launched an investigation looking for the culprit of the false report. It turns out that their very own, paramedic from Jackson County Fire and Rescue, Wade Allen Welle placed the call.

While leaving his shift at the fire station on Saturday morning, Welle was arrested.
He is now charged with a felony.

"When one of us, or the personnel, that is supposed to be setting the higher standards and representing the safety of all the community, and they mis-use or abuse this type of system, it to me, is a little bit more serious," Roberts went on to say.
