Family Gives Back to Honor Victim's Memory

The family of Megan Pettis, murdered in March by her alleged boyfriend, is honoring her memory by giving back to the community in the form of a scholarship.

Family members and friends of Megan Pettis gathered at Pineapple Willy's to pay special tribute to her memory, but rather than mourn, they chose to use the time to give back, beginning the first of what could be an annual tradition.

The family has set up a scholarship fund specifically for students with certain disabilities. The move comes in recognition of the way Pettis fought and managed to come out a winner despite having dyslexia.

This year, the scholarship is worth $1,000 and was awarded to a student from Arnold High School with plans to attend Stetson University.

The event also featured an art auction as well as a silent auction.
