BAY COUNTY-- The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating a fatal traffic crash in northern Bay County.
It happened around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 231, near Campflowers Road near Bear Creek.
Troopers say 26-year-old Kenneth Steele was driving his Chevy pick-up truck heading north on Highway 231, when he crossed the median and drove into the southbound lanes.
The pick-up hit a southbound Toyota SUV occupied by 20-year-old driver Devonteal McFann and his 28-year-old passenger Brandon McNeal.
Steele was pronounced dead at the the hospital. McFann and McNeal are listed in serious condition.
Fire rescue personnel had to use the jaws of life to extract at least Steele from his pick-up.
Paramedics took all three people to area hospitals.
The crash shut down the southbound lanes for several hours causing police to direct southbound traffic into northbound lanes until the wreckage could be cleared.
It's still unclear why Steele drove into oncoming traffic.
