A Fountain man riding his bike along a dark stretch of Highway 231 lost his life late last night after being hit by not just one but three cars. The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the bicyclist as 21 year old Anthony Edward Cory Hinds.

Hinds was killed on highway 231 in north bay county last night after being hit by three vehicles. The accident happened about 10:25 just south of Preacher Johns Road. Troopers say Hinds was headed home from his job at the 231 Truck Stop.

He was riding in the outside lane of the highway when he was struck by one car, then another, and then another. All three drivers immediately stopped. Hinds was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed but the investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol is continuing. "I wish that, wish that they'd make it safer for the people up here, you know,” said Barbara Hood, a family friend. “Put in some kind of sidewalks, now we've got a Winn Dixie coming and another grocery store and people need to mobilize. There's no public transportation up here. We are country people, we rely on each other."

Although accidents like this aren't common, troopers are hoping that bicyclists will be more careful while riding at night. Lt. Dave Brown said that it’s important for bicyclists to “have the required lights on your bicycles, reflectors on the bicycles, light colored clothing or a reflective vest, if you’re going to be riding after dark.”

To clarify: Anthony was riding in the bike path he was not riding IN the road. He was riding in the designated area. If you watch the majority of people driving are always driving over the white line and into the bike path making it unsafe for those who choose to ride/walk.

to the guy who said the stuff about the highway you obviously dont know fountain. The only places to work are up 231 and if you try to take the backroads you will be riding forever.... and probably eaten by a dog or something. he didnt really have much choice other than riding on the highway(which has no shoulder btw) so a law against it may cause a few issues for those who like money and the items it buys.... like food....

This is a tragedy, not only for the deceased but also the drivers who have to go thru life with this on this on them. There needs to be some laws against pedestrians and bicyclists walking and riding on highways. This happens way too often, especially at night.
