Former Airport Police Chief Pleaded No Contest

Former Airport Police Chief Tony Walker pleaded no contest Monday to grand theft, two counts of dealing in stolen property and tampering with evidence for stealing and selling guns from the Bay County Sheriff's Office's evidence room.

Chief Assistant State Attorney Greg Wilson told Circuit Judge Michael Overstreet that Walker, while working as a deputy, filled out paperwork in 2006 showing that 20 guns that were no longer evidence in pending cases had been destoryed in accordance with state law.

Walker had taken the weapons and sold them to individuals and pawn shops in the area.

When questioned in 2012, Walker hid one of the firearms to prevent investigators from finding it.

Overstreet sentenced Walker to five years probation. Walker had to surrender his certification and will never work as an officer again.
