Marianna- A lot of kids look forward to summer vacation the whole school year- but , summer's aren't fun if you're hungry, and sadly, that's the case for many kids in panhandle, and around the u-s.
That's why St. James AME Church in Marianna is hosting a summer feeding program.
Anyone 18 and under is eligible for the program. To partake, kids can go to St. James AME Church on Orange Street in Marianna for a free breakfast at 9 am and then come back from 11:30 AM 1 PM for free a lunch. The program is sponsored by USDA and Second Harvest and lasts until school starts back at the end of the summer.
Pastor Ronald Dale Mizer said volunteers feed roughly 60 kids every day, but knew they were only reaching a small portion of the children in Marianna who needed meals.
"We need more children and we need more volunteer to come and help us. River Town Community Church is helping us. We're opening two moire- uh, more sites. One in greenwood, one in Malone, and one in Cottondale. They should be opened up with in the next week" Mizer said.
