PANAMA CITY BEACH - State Troopers have released details on a bizarre and deadly crash that involved two parked cars.

Troopers say 58-year-old James Colton of Panama City Beach hit a trash can on Front Beach Road around 11:10 a.m. He kept going and slammed into a Honda Accord in the parking lot of the Latitude 29 condominiums, pushing it into another parked car.

Colton’s truck then hit a water line, gas line and a palm tree before finally coming to a stop.

"He was going 40 or 50 mph and never put on his brakes as far as I know,” said Ed Birthright who witnessed the crash.

A passenger in the Accord, Francis Stone of Overland Park, Kansas, was taken to Bay Medical/Sacred Heart where he died. Another passenger, 72-year-old Janice Stone of San Antonio, Texas is listed in serious condition. The driver of the Accord, 75-year-old John Stone, suffered minor injuries.

Colton was not hurt. Troopers are not sure why he drove off the road. Charges are pending.
