Jennifer Carroll is credited by many for helping Governor Rick Scott in his narrow 2010 election.

Carroll resigned Tuesday after being questioned by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement over her involvement in promoting Allied Veterans of the World. The company's locations were raided and its principles arrested. Carroll appeared in a public service announcement and a promotional video for the company all while serving as a member of the Florida House of Representatives.

Florida law gives Governor Rick Scott the sole power to appoint Carroll’s successor.

"I will not elaborate on the details of her resignation further. Other than to say that she resigned and she did the right thing for the state and for her family," said Governor Rick Scott.

Scott has ordered his re-election campaign to give any contributions it received from Allied Veterans to charity.

"Here's what we know today, she was involved in the company that we know has been involved in criminal activity," said Scott.

He says he will wait until early May to name the replacement.

If something were to happen to Governor Rick Scott before Carroll replacement is named, the Attorney General would take over.

Police say a second wave of arrests could involve elected officials. Scott was asked if Carroll would be charged. He abruptly ended his news conference.
