Panama City Beach - Paul Vecker has been interested in trains since he was 10 years old and he is always looking for a new hobby to work on and garden trains make for the perfect project

"It’s something people can do in the back yard as a family and you can do it year around. These trains run year around except in the rain," said Vecker.

Vecker says the best thing about the hobby is you can do as much or little as you want. He chooses to be very hands on even hand painting these figurines.

"I only built this about a month ago and its going to take me about another 3 or 4 years to get everything done. I'll have some bridges built and I’m going to take my time doing that and more figurines and more cars, but i like to take my time because I like to do things that look authentic," said Vecker.

Veckers says he would like to eventually start a garden train club in Bay County, for people who are interested in starting their own garden trains.

"Eventually I would like to have somebody donate some land where we could build a g-scaled rail road where people from Bay County could come and see," said Vecker.

But, Vecker has some advice for rail road enthusiast.

"Be really careful about the salt air if your close to the coast and get started slowly don't get involved to quickly you got to take your time build slowly and get to know what your doing and really enjoy it," said Vecker.

Vecker is also hard at work on other hobby projects like building model aircraft.

It would be great to have a Garden Railroad Club. It would be a chance for others interested to share there tips.

I prefer gardening... I guess the trains are cool but.. Okay rather than being totally critical. Gardening is good therapy, they've been using this "therapy" with soldiers returning with PTSD and the results have been remarkable. It would stand to reason it would help anyone suffering anything from PTSD to common depression, and in these trying economic times, it's at least potentially a two-fold endeavor... Food for thought... Or gardening for therapy and food, which will in turn feed thought... (sorry got a little fresh organic buzz going)
