Glenwood Rape Suspect Going to Prison

The Youngstown man, who put an entire neighborhood on edge for several weeks last year, is going to prison.

34-year-old Michael Jones Jr. plead no contest Thursday to sexual battery with a weapon.

On April 27th, Jones lured an 18-year old girl lured the girl behind an abandoned home on East 11th Court in the Glenwood community, hit her in the head with a shovel, and then raped her.

Jones then left the scene.

The crime scared many neighbors, who called on police for quick action, and the city to remove the vacant house they called invitations for crime and criminals.

Panama City Police arrested Jones about a week after the rape, using evidence they found at the crime scene.

After entering his plea Thursday, Circuit Judge Brantley Clark sentenced Jones to 25 years in prison, and designated him a sex offender.
