A referendum to continue collecting a 1-mil property tax passed today by a 10% margin.

The 1-mil amounts to about 1-point-3 million dollars a year. It will continue to go directly into the school district's operating budget.

Gulf District Schools is already operating at a half-a-million dollar budget shortfall, so administrators say the continuation of this tax was crucial. Without it, they say they'd have to lay-off as many as 50-people, or 20% of the school district's workforce.
