GRAND RIDGE - A dump truck driver is in the hospital with second and third degree burns after a wreck that created quite a mess for Jackson County road crews to clean up.

According to State Troopers, the dump truck was headed east on U.S. 90. The light at the intersection of State Road 69 turned yellow and he failed to stop. The dump truck hit a tanker truck that was attempting to turn left onto SR 69.

The tanker truck was carrying liquid tar. The tar spilled onto the driver of the dump truck and the roadway. A helicopter was brought in to fly him to Tallahassee.

The accident happened around 8:45 a.m. Eastbound and Northbound 69 remain closed as of 1:00 p.m.

NewsChannel 7 will have more on the accident tonight at 5:00 and 6:00.
