PANAMA CITY BEACH - The Bay County community is remembering the late John Richard Post Sr. or as our community knew him "Coach Post" through a fundraising race Saturday.
Nearly 600 runners registered for the first 5k and 10k Coach Post run Saturday at St. Andrews State Park.
Family and former students of Coach Post took part in the event to remember a man who left a legacy in the community. Coach Post was a P.E. teacher at Jinks Middle School for nearly 40 years before retiring and teaching part time at Covenant Christian School.
Family members say they're overwhelmed by the local support.
"It's so touching. Seeing everyone here and seeing people I don't even know who knew him is amazing. It makes me want to cry," said Joy Post, Coach Post's granddaughter.
Race organizers expect to raise around $15,000. All proceeds will go to Covenant Christian School.
