WEST BAY, Fla Torrential rain has hampered the agency's effort to build up a washed out dike along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway in West Bay. A 4-mile stretch between West Bay and Choctawhatchee Bay remains partially open after being shut down in early July because of flooding.
Officials had planned to fully reopen the channel three weeks ago, but the rain dampened those hopes. There is no definite date for completion and officials are asking boaters to steer clear of the area.
Corp spokeswoman Lisa Parker SAYS the continuing rain has been a problem all summer.
Boaters are asked to contact the Coast Guard Sector Mobile while traveling in the area.
