Inmates Suing Sheriff and Doctor

FRANKLIN COUNTY-- Seven inmates are suing Franklin County's sheriff and jail doctor for $75 million for allegedly being deprived medical care.

The inmates claim Sheriff Mike Mock and jail doctor Stephen Miniat's deliberate indifference and negligence caused them to suffer and violated their civil rights.

Their attorney claims one inmate, the subject of separate lawsuit, died because he was refused medical care.

Among the seven plaintiffs is an HIV patient who allegedly suffers from seizures because his medication was changed by the jail personnel.

The lawsuit claims it took the threat of a riot to get help for the seizure victim.

Another prisoner claims his diabetes went untreated, and now he's lost some of his vision.

The lawsuit was filed late Friday in Tallahassee federal court.
