Ironman Florida Set for Saturday in PCB

Panama City Beach, FL---If you live or work in the Panama City Beach area, you have likely noticed the increase of cyclists and joggers around the city streets this week. That's because it's Ironman week, centered at the Boardwalk Beach Resort.

The 14th annual Ironman Florida set for Saturday with the Boardwalk serving as race headquarters, as well as the start and finish lines.

Some 3 thousand triathletes have converged on the resort looking forward to a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike and a full marathon, 26.2 miles. The athlete's village is set up and running there, and registration in full swing Wednesday.

Ben Rausa is the race director and he talked to us about where these athletes are coming from.

"All over the world, we have 39 countries represented. We think we have all 50 states covered. We have a great pro field, there should be 50 to 60 pros. The weather has absolutely cooperated. Two days ago we were looking at some waves out there but it's flattened out. The temperature's rose up a little bit, we should have warmer temperatures than expected. I'm looking at low 80's."

Though 3 thousand have entered, Ben expects about 26 hundred to race. The pros hit the water at 6:50, the age groupers start at 7, they have until midnight to finish.

The swim is a 1.2 mile loop just behind the Boardwalk Beach Resort. Here are the links to bike and run courses.
