“For most of the year, Panama City Beach (PCB), Florida is a peaceful Gulf Coast town with 27 miles of gorgeous beachfront. But for six weeks every March and April, it transforms into the wildest party in the country.”

So begins a spring break feature in the March issue of Seventeen magazine that goes on to depict Panama City Beach’s spring break as not only wild, but potentially dangerous as well.

The article, titled “The Sketchiest Spring Break in America,” uses a series of short segments and interviews to depict a wild party scene that may begin with fun, but could quickly turn into a dangerous situation for young women who let things get too out of control.

Now the local Tourist Development Council (TDC) will have to react to the negative publicity, and business owners can only hope that the article does not drive customers away during an already trying economic time.

But we want to know: What’s been your experience with Panama City Beach’s spring break? Is it too crazy? Or are visitors who keep their wits about them as safe as they are in their hometowns?

This story, the way it was written, is probably the best thing this magazine could have done for the beach. The best advertising is FREE advertising. And it's not what there saying, its the fact that their talking! Thanks Seventeen Mag!

As a condo owner, if it weren't for renting to spring brerakers, I don't know how I could hold on to our condo. Snow birds pay $600 a month for something that costs me $1350 to own. If spring break is nixed in the future I will end up being one more abandoned condo. I can't sell it. I have to rent it to pay all the taxes and HOA fees. It's not like us condo owners have a choice anymore. We're hangin' on for dear life! First the oil spill now bad publicity. Great. How about a swarm of locus to finish us off?

When you people talk about how the powers that be screw the locals to get rich it shows how narrow minded your views are. The taxable revenue spring break brings in accounts for a third of the annual over all tax dollars. The spring break tax revenue helps this area in every possible way. There would be no pier park, new air ports, fine dinning establishments, beach re-nourishments, and let’s not mention all the jobs that would be lost. You people need to wake up. This beach is what it is because of spring break. It was here long before you moved here and it will still be here long after you are gone. If you don’t like it move. This are would be better off without your narrow minded presence in this vast tourist attraction known as Panama City Beach.
