Marianna- A historic landmark in Jackson Count will soon have a 'For Sale' sign in it's front yard. The Russ House in Marianna has been home to the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce for years, but recently became up for grabs. The Tourist Development Council told Jackson County Commissioners Tuesday they wanted to be the ones who took it off the market.
The TDC approached the county with interest in purchasing the house. The group has been operating out of the building for the past three years.
The board authorized the TDC to have the building inspected and appraised. They also instructed TDC Director, Pam Fuqua and Chairman, Paul Donofro Jr. to draft a thorough evaluation of what taking over ownership would cost.
Donofro told News Channel 7 he thought the reaction from the commission was a positive step toward the council becoming the next Russ House homeowner.
"Getting the commission to move forward with both securing an appraisal and an inspection puts the due diligence process forward" Donofro told us.
County commissioners said they would reassess the TDC's request after the appraisal, inspection, and monetary figures were complete.
